A Message from the Education Foundation Chair

The Annual Appeal serves as a primary funding mechanism for the general operating budget of the AHRA Education Foundation. From August 2019 through December 2019, we raised an additional $1,773 to conclude the 2019 calendar year member drive. The 2020 member annual appeal was initiated in January and started strong with a multitude of leadership commitments in the first 60 days of the year. However, as an organization, we decided to pause the member appeal come March in order to remain empathetic and ensure our members were able to focus on the changing realities of healthcare and their personal lives, not distracting them with other things. Even during this time, members made personal choices to give to the annual appeal. To date, we have raised $14,655 from January 2020 through June 2020. This total consists of one-time gifts and monthly commitments from our members.

The following report reflects fundraising efforts and awards presented for the period of January 2020 through July 2020. The Legacy Circle, which was originally introduced to the EF annual campaign in 2019 for members who donate $500 or more saw an increase in 2020 of many donations that were above $750 each. There are currently 22 Legacy Circle members with donations exceeding $12,000.

The EF has had a total of $10,449.00 granted to its members during the first six months of 2020.

The number of scholarships presented increased in 2020 due to the additional resources available from the cancellation of the Spring Conference and in-person Annual Meeting. A total of sixteen members have been granted registration for the Annual Virtual Meeting through the AHRA Annual Meeting Scholarship program, which is co-sponsored by the EF and Hitachi. Hitachi sponsored nine members. The Annual Meeting Osborn Scholarships are funded solely by the EF and were offered to seven members including one military member. The Virtual Meeting recipients are offered $250 each which pays registration costs. One individual who received the Spring Osborn Scholarship was reimbursed $800 for the cost of airfare associated with the cancellation of the Spring Conference in 2020. That member will attend an on-site meeting in the future.

The Ed Yoder Memorial Scholarship was granted to one member. $1049 was presented which entitled the member to participate in the on-line Basic Track program.

One member received an Education Waiver of $250 to attend the 2020 Annual Virtual Meeting. The program is open to existing AHRA members who are currently unemployed and actively seeking employment in medical imaging management. The program provides complete meeting registration, hotel accommodation, and up to $500 to support travel related expenses for one AHRA conference to an AHRA member who is currently unemployed.

There was one recipient of the Broadley Scholarship who received up to $2500. This EF program provides financial assistance to AHRA members who have been accepted into an initial undergraduate or graduate degree program relevant to a supervisory career in the medical imaging field.

The Blancaflor Scholarship was granted to one recipient for up to $1000, to assist a current or former member of the military to obtain their CRA.

The Kathryn Keeler Memorial Scholarship of $425.00 was granted to two members. This provides opportunities for AHRA members who might not otherwise be able to afford the registration fees associated with preparation and CRA exam costs. The Kathryn Keeler Memorial Scholarship is also solely funded by the EF.
